Maggie Q on Faye Wong

In this video, Maggie Q says, “Out of all the Asian artists, I mean, if there was gonna be anyone who had the right style and the talent, Faye Wong (王菲) is it. I don’t think there’s any other Chinese artist who compares to her. No way. Not even close. There’s not even a close second, in my opinion. No.”

From the moment I saw this video and heard her words, Maggie Q — who starred in Die Hard 4.0 (2007), Mission: Impossible III (2006), Rogue’s Gallery (2009), and many other films — has had my highest respect. Seldom are actors completely candid with the public, especially when it comes to the glowing qualities of another actor, but Maggie Q does just that in this video. She says exactly what fayenatics have known all along, that Faye is so far above her peers that second isn’t even close.

  1. Thank you for compiling news and videos of Faye. It really meant a lot to fans like us wanting to know all about Faye and how she is doing currenlty.

However, I am concerned whether we are in a way encouraging paparazzi or public to disturb her normal life. As much as I wanted to hear her singing again, I also hope that she is happy and that she gets to do what she wants.

May I just call out to all lucky people who happened to see her on the streets (don’t know how you all do it)- please do give her all the privacy and respect, do not just stalk her and let her lead the life she wants. She has already contributed most of her life with us, we should also do our part and be a quietly supportive fan.

Lastly, I want to thank the owner of this blog again for spending so much effort compiling all these information about Faye. Thank You!

    Regards,
    Photosophize

  2. Photosophize, thank you for your kind words.

Re your concern about publications such as Faye Wong Today encouraging overly aggressive paparazzi and fans — I think we have to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bath water. If the problem is the poor behavior of some people, we don’t condemn the entire news media and all the readers and viewers in the world by censoring news relating to Faye Wong.

A parallel example is the sale of CDs. We don’t ban their manufacture and sale the world over because of people who are hawking bogus copies. Instead, we go after the criminals — not the vast majority of legitimate publishers and customers.

By the same token, instead of condemning the media as a whole, we should place blame where blame lies — with the paparazzi and errant fans. If they cannot police themselves, then we need to do the policing for them by passing laws that restrict what they can and cannot do in pursuit of stars.

None of us likes to see Faye being hounded by overly zealous reporters and fans so I share your concern. But censoring news about Faye is not the answer.

  3. The video gave me chills… so many fond memories of faye… I think I’m gonna listen to her the rest of this arvo…

  4. I’m so happy there is a Faye Wong in our life time. Someday she will be gone. But we will have shared this era with her, thank you Faye for all that you’ve done and any future work you will reveal to us.

  5. John, yes it’s weird that so many in the US “discover” Faye though her films such as CKE and 2046 before they realize she’s a singer. Then when they follow up on her music, they realize how great she is as not only a singer but as a composer and writer. Finally, when they really dig in to her life, they realize what a fantastic person she is. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the rest of us Fayenatics!
