Faye and Sandy – 1992 Revolving Mike Performance

In this 1992 video, Faye Wong (王菲) and Sandy Lam (林憶蓮) perform live on TV, taking turns at a revolving mike. The quality of this video is superior to anything that’s been available up until now. This video was added to YouTube by sandyandme3 on 4 Oct. 2009.

  1. The quality is great. Maybe we will one day be able to play the high quality clips on the dvd. Faye must have sung something else on this programme. Do you know what and if there is a copy. She looks great but the cameraman keeps on Sandy (which makes me suspect he must have been blind!). Thanks for sharing.

  2. I hope you’re right, Nick. As good as the quality has become, YouTube videos are still of poor quality compared to the better DVD products. My guess is that the quality will continue to improve until both video and audio will be high definition. I don’t think the wait will be that long. Currently, some digital audio that’s sold online is of much higher quality than standard CDs. That’s the beauty of digital. If HD originals are available, they can be uploaded and distributed in very high resolutions.

Yeah, that was kind of interesting — Sandy being spotlighted over Faye. However, this was 1992, and Faye’s star was just beginning to rise. The fact that she is coupled with Sandy, an established star at that time, says a lot about the potential that everyone saw in Faye. Also, notice the height difference? Sandy’s in high heels with a towering hairdo, and Faye, I think, is in flats. But Faye still has to lower her head to reach the mike.

And, of course, there’s the voice difference. Two very different styles.

Good point about other songs. I think you’re right. There must be other songs that Faye sang on this show. It’s hard to imagine that they’d invite her and ask her to do only one. The outfit she’s weaqring is easy to spot so if there are other videos, I think we’ll be able to ID them.
