Faye and Carina Celebrate Their Birthdays in Shanghai

On 6 August 2010, Faye Wong (王菲) and Carina Lau (刘嘉玲) celebrated their brithdays in Shanghai’s Peace Hotel. Faye’s birthday is on Aug. 8, and Carina’s, on Aug. 6. (Source Sohu Entertainment News, et.21cn, ent.cina, 8.7.10)

Correction by Cejan on 8.8.10: Carina’s birthday is on December 8. Thus, the celebration was for Faye!

  1. I believe Carina’s birthday is on 8 December

By the way who is the lady sitting in the middle chair, and who is the guy in red jacket?

And why do I see A-ya and Xiao S there too??

  2. Cejan, thanks for the heads up re Carina’s birthday! I inserted a correction.

[Added about an hour later:] Good question re who’s sitting on the most prominent chair. It ought to be Faye. But it’s not in Faye’s character to do that.

[Added 8.8.10:] The person on the throne is Rosamund Kwan (关之琳). Here are some excerpts from her wiki: “A Chinese actress born in Hong Kong with ancestry in Shenyang, Liaoning in China on her father’s side and from Shanghai on her mother’s side. . . . She is best known internationally for her roles in Hong Kong action films, alongside a variety of major stars of the genre. . . . In 2001 she appeared in Feng Xiaogang’s Chinese comedy, Big Shot’s Funeral, which starred Donald Sutherland as a film director and Kwan as his assistant.”

  3. I have read several articles online about this birthday party, and the truth is it’s actually NOT Faye’s birthday party! The birthday party was for Hong Kong socialite Lily Ho, whose birthday falls on 6 August. I believe she’s the one sitting in the middle chair.

Many celebrities were invited to the party, Faye and her husband were one of the guests. But apparently Faye stole the spotlight as everyone thought it’s her birthday party!

  4. Cejan, thanks for the correction re the lady in the middle, Lily.

Re whose birthday party this is — everything I’ve read says it was planned by LYP for Faye. I’m still awaiting confirmation re your claim that it’s really for someone else. Can you point me to a source?

  5. It has to be someone else’s birthday party, that would explain why there’s a lady sitting in the middle. all the sources i read are in chinese
