Danny, I just went online to check Chinese news sources and the vast majority of media, even up until the last few minutes to an hour, are reporting that Faye will participate. There won’t be any solos, but Faye will be the lead singer in a 45-person choir and she will receive the most attention. None of the sources that I read are saying that she won’t participate.

The ent.163 source that you’re pointing to doesn’t say that she won’t sing, but it doesn’t say that she will, either. Also, it omits Faye’s name from the list of singers. Still, the latest sources are no longer including a list of participants so it might mean that the lists are inaccurate.

At this point, until we hear more definitive news, one way or the other, I’ll be expecting Faye to participate in the program.

Faye’s Favorite Dish

Here’s an interesting article that appeared recently. It lists the favorite dishes of popular stars such as Faye Wong (王菲), Chen Zi (陈紫函), Li Yuchun (李宇春), Joey Yung (容祖儿), Li Hunan (李湘), and Carina Lau (刘嘉玲). The theme is the relationship between feminine beauty and food, and the article claims that Faye “is particularly fond of eating fish.” Not surprisingly, Faye leads the list, despite the fact that she hasn’t performed in the last three years. (Except, of course, for the earthquake relief in May.) Faye’s popularity continues unabated, and she reigns as the hottest star in the media.

More Photos from Hangzhou Visit

These remarkable photos are from Faye Wong’s (王菲) visit, in Hangzhou during the first week of June, with children injured in the earthquake. They show her love and concern for the children. She was genuinely interested in each child’s health status, hugged them, and tried to make them smile and laugh. According to reporters, it was a “scene that moved many people.” For a related post, click here.

Faye and LYP in Hangzhou

Faye Wong (王菲) and Li Yapeng (李亚鹏) went to Hangzhou on June 6 to visit children injured in the earthquake. Despite appeals by the local government officials to keep media activity to a minimum, the press corps grew as word of the visit got out. (Added 6.7.08: Unable to keep the press at bay, LYP asked that they at least shield the children’s faces in their photos. The first photo in the lineup below, posted 6.6.08, was replaced with a copy that blurs the baby’s face.) LYP asked photographers to When the inevitable question about Faye’s return was raised, LYP’s answer was very interesting: “The main thing now is to do charity. Other things cannot be [pursued] for the time being.” This is definitely not a “no.” This photo of Faye with the recuperating baby shows her genuine warmth and caring. And you can see the same caring in LYP’s face, too. As a couple, they are symbols for the love and generosity of all the people of China.

Will Faye Resurface to Raise Funds for Children?

For the past few days, the Chinese press has, again, returned to speculating about Faye Wong’s (王菲) return, this time claiming that the program Li Yapeng (李亚鹏) is proposing for the longterm care of children impacted by the earthquake will cost a lot of money and, therefore, Faye may perform and record CDs to help raise funds. LYP is calling for volunteers to commit to providing support for the children over the next ten years or more, to assist them until they graduate from school and find good jobs. He says his plan (汶川新家庭计划, Wenchuan new family planning) will be a moral commitment rather than a legal contract. The more I see of LYP, at least in the last couple of years, the more I admire him. He’s a natural leader, and his heart and mind are in the right place. There’s also no denying the influence that Faye is having on him. She has always been a kind, caring, and generous person when it comes to caring for those in need. (Source: entertainment.northeast.cn, 3 June 2008)

Faye Wong and LYP Visit Earthquake Victims

On 1 June 2008, International Children’s Day (国际儿童节), Faye Wong (王菲) and Li Yapeng (李亚鹏) visit children, injured in the earthquake, in a Beijing Hospital. Tong Tong accompanied them but isn’t in the photos. The children were brought here for medical treatment provided by the SmileAngel foundation (嫣然天使基金, Yan Ran Angel Fund). In the photos, LYP is carrying gifts for the children they’re visiting, two 14-year-olds and a 5-year-old. (Source: Sohu.com)

Star Moms Organizing – Faye’s on Their A List

A group of stars who are also mothers are organizing to visit the Sichuan earthquake area to provide firsthand support to the thousands of young children who are orphans. The contact list includes: Faye Wong (王菲)、Na Ying (那英)、Wu Junru (吴君如)、Yuan Yongyi (袁咏仪), and XU Xi-tai (徐熙娣). (Source msn.ent.ynet.com, 26 May 2008).

Comment: Whether Faye will participate is up in the air. She has stated in the past week that she won’t visit the disaster area because of the confusion that her presence might cause. Interfering with the work of the relief crews is the last thing she wants to do, and her high profile media presence might do just that. Still, I’m sure that she wants to go and is weighing the pros and cons. Her presence would definitely draw invaluable media attention to the plight of the survivors, especially the orphans. However, seeing the impact of her presence at relief events in Beijing and Hong Kong, she has to be concerned that the overwhelming media presence might hamper relief efforts. It’s a tough call. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
