Faye’s ‘Les Rues de Paris’

This is an MP3 of Faye Wong (王菲) singing “Les Rues de Paris” in a live performance in Hong Kong in 1994. It has never been included in an official release. I’ts been available online (audio only) for some time, but I never got around to posting it in Faye Wong Today — that is, until now.

  1. Thank you Feifan!!!! This is my very first time to hear this… So lovely the voice! Faye rocks!

  2. You’re welcome, Yan Kiat. Faye rocks! Yeah! The wonder of Faye is that she can sing anything and turn it into an instant classic. And for years after, others will try to emulate her, and the fact that they can’t tells us more about Faye’s gift than any awards or words of praise.

  3. Hi!

I just discovered your blog today. It’s awesome to see there is someone out there so dedicated to provide us with Faye news. Good work!

Thank you so much for this rare clip I have never heard of before! I am a French speaker and hearing Faye sings in French is wonderful. By the way, her pronunciation is amazingly impeccable!

  4. Linh, welcome to FWT, and thanks for the kind words. I get a lot of help from super fayenatics such as Wubing, Yan Kiat, Deb, Delirium-Zer0, Dan, Megan, Grady, Nick, Raint, Raymond Chua, Mark, away, mysticaldodo, Zach, Jill, y.A.S.d., cfensi, Sarah, Tina, kealy, and many others.

I think one of Faye’s gifts is enunciation. The great ones have the ability to make the words in songs sound beautiful. She does it with Mandarin and Cantonese, with English and Japanese, and with French, too. I think this is one of the reasons why we can listen to her songs forever.
